AN AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL PRESENTATION
(60 minutes)
Miranda tells the story of her career thus far, using videos of performances, short movies, photographs, audio works, readings and audience participation. July’s career began with a play she wrote as a teenager based on her correspondence with an imprisoned murderer, and her story only gets more interesting from there. The self-taught filmmaker, writer, artist and performer presents her work and creative path, from a "punk feminist thief" to The Future and beyond.
THE AUCTION
(60 minutes)
Miranda asks audience members to donate small items—lip balm, say or a ticket stub from a concert—and then uses these items these as a springboard to draw out personal stories from the donors, interviewing them on stage. The commonplace becomes the vehicle for exploring the richness of people’s lives. The items are then placed in a commemorative envelope, marked with details of the night and signed by Miranda and the donor. An auction takes place for an undisclosed charity, the nature of which is the final surprise twist to the evening.
COMPLIMENT VIDEOS
(in conjunction with a presentation, reading or onstage conversation)
A small number of people are pulled from the audience and placed in a room with a video camera. They are given the names of audience members and are invited to speak directly and sincerely to the camera giving the audience member the compliment the speaker has always wanted to receive. The compliments are played throughout the rest of the evening with the named audience member being asked to stand to receive the compliment. Eventually Miranda explains how these strangely well-acted or heartfelt videos were made, and they become the confessions they are.
